Books for Newborns is a 100% volunteer non-profit organization that partners with St. Louis area hospitals and social service agencies to provide books and other reading materials to low-income mothers and their families.
Books for Newborns pursues three important goals . . .
Encourage early reading to families in the St. Louis area who need it most.
Show moms the value of reading to and bonding with their babies.
Get age appropriate books into homes of low income families in our region.
We provide books & reading encouragement to low income families in St. Louis who have just delivered a baby.
Nearly every dollar goes toward books and bags, so every donation directly impacts St. Louis families. Bookbags with five age appropriate books are delivered to the mother and included in the bag is a card to encourage reading and bonding. There isn’t one cause of poor literacy among low income children. But easy access to books is one of the biggest obstacles to equalizing children’s literacy.

Make a difference in a child’s life.
Each book bag we deliver costs about $15. Because others provide for all our costs other than books, 100% of your donation will go directly towards purchasing book bags for new mothers and their families.
Generous people like you have enabled Books for Newborns to deliver more than 30,000 book bags to new mothers through February 2023. Help us continue by purchasing one or more book bags below, or establish a monthly donation. Thank you!
Purchase one ($15), five ($75), ten ($150) or any number of book bags for new mothers and their families.
